The recycling site Trioworld Korsberga, part of the Recycling Division, was inaugurated on October 7th, by Peter Kullgren, the Swedish Minister of Rural Affairs, together with County Governor in Jönköpings län, Brittis Benzler. More than 200 guests were present in the audience when the ribbon was cut.

With more than 200 guests in the audience, Peter Kullgren, Minister of Rural Affairs, together with County Governor in Jönköpings län, Brittis Benzler cut the 'ribbon' made of bale wrap in pink, blue and yellow. The guests listened to presentations about Trioworld's circular solutions, how to achieve 'true circularity', and why this is important for a sustainable use of plastic film and a decarbonised future. Discussions on stage with invited guests like the Managing Director of Plastic Recyclers Europe, Antonino Furfari and Associate Professor Johanna Albert at Danderyd Hospital were followed by a tour in the new recycling facility with state-of-the art technology showcasing next generation recycling and PCR production*.

New recycling lines and new job opportunities

The inauguration highlights Trioworld's strategic decision to expand it’s recycling capacity in Sweden with additional recycling lines in the Trioworld Korsberga site. The recycled plastic waste has until now originated mainly from the agricultural sector with used bale wrap, an application where the plastic film is used to process silage for feedstock. The new lines add the capacity and technology to recycle plastic waste from film in additional applications such as load security film for the transport and logistics sector as well as protective aprons from the healthcare sector. The initiative has already created more than 60 new jobs – and recruitment is ongoing.

“This is a big step towards a circular economy for plastic film in these applications. What we do in the Trioworld Korsberga site is unique. It is great to just use recycled material, but only when bringing used film back into the same application, circularity is achieved. At Trioworld, we have accomplished that for load security film, agri silage wrap and protective aprons. It is a game-changer within the industry and a big step towards a sustainable use of plastic and plastic waste”, says Oskar Karlsson, President of the Recycling division at Trioworld.

A strategic decision to meet future demand

Trioworld's investments and the newly established Recycling division is a result of a strategic decision in 2021 to control the supply chain and raw material availability. A decision based on the changing legislative landscape in Europe and increased need to reduce the carbon footprint across industrial sectors. Trioworld is now investing to produce the raw material needed to meet the future demand of recycled content in plastic film and flexible plastic packaging solutions.

“Within five years, we will have doubled the capacity here in Korsberga to 50,000 tonnes," says Andreas Malmberg, CEO at Trioworld Group. “The plan is an additional three, four production lines. We are in it for the long-run.”
